Summary
Ana Maletić: The Book of Dance
Ana Maletić, teacher, choreographer, dance artist and dance historian (Budapest, 1904 - Zagreb, 1986), belongs to the most important names in contemporary Croatian dance. Studying in Belgrade, Paris and Berlin, and perfecting her knowledge based on the theory and methodology of Rudolf Laban, Jacques Delcroze and Maga Magazinović, Ana Maletić began her long-term work on founding iconic institutions of Croatian contemporary dance: in 1932, she founded a private school for contemporary dance in Zagreb, which would be the foundation and forerunner of the School of Rhythmic and Dance, the Studio for Contemporary Dance, and the Zagreb Dance Ensemble. Her choreographies by contemporary domestic composers have received numerous accolades and performances on world and domestic stages. At the same time, Ana Maletić devoted herself to writing historical-theoretical texts about the art of dance, publishing two anthology books in that area: Movement and Dance (1983) and Knjiga o plesu (1986), in which she described in an unforgettable way the archetypes of dance, dance understood as an indicator of all forms and customs of the life of individual peoples.
