Vlada Petrić: Memories of a film monk
Vladimir Vlada Petrić (March 11, 1928, Prnjavor, Kingdom of Yugoslavia - November 13, 2019, Belgrade, Serbia) was a prominent film theorist, historian and aesthetician, professor at Harvard University and co-founder of the Harvard Film Archive. Professor Petrić is the first scientist to receive a doctorate in filmology in the USA, at New York University, in 1973.
At the beginning of his creative career, he directed film, television and theater, and later focused on experimental film in various forms. He is the winner of a number of awards in the country and abroad, among which are the prestigious New York Anthology Film Archive award (2011), as well as the Order of Happiness (2019), a decoration of the Republic of Serbia in the field of cultural, educational and humanitarian activities. Scientific research conducted by Mr. Petrić in the field of American and Soviet cinematography are represented by top achievements in the field of film sciences (filmology).
