The book White Clown, often called the Croatian Little Prince, was illustrated by Lovro Artuković. The illustrations are in black and white because, as everyone who has had the White Clown in their school textbook probably knows, the boy from this novel does not distinguish between colors, and an old man he meets in the forest helps him solve this problem. Like any good book for children, this one is also a book for adults.
It is a story about a deeper color blindness, the color blindness of everyday life, about the conformism of thinking, the superficiality of our reactions. About a clown who is successful only when he is sad and causes astonishment, because it has become incomparably more difficult to astonish people than to make them laugh.
