About the author of the children's novel Friends:
Croatian writer Mato Lovrak was born on March 8, 1899 in Veliki Grđevci near Bjelovar. He is best known for his novels for children. He gained popularity already with his first novel Children of a Great Village (1930), later called Train in the Snow and published in more than thirty editions. His second best-known novel Družba Pera Kvržica (published in 1933) shows his lively interest in groups of village children and their games at that time.

Lovrak's other best-known works are: Wild boy, Enemy number 1, Doka Bedaković or a hundred thousand on the road, Anka Brasilijanka, Zeleni otok...
