About the authors:
Gabriel A. Almond is considered one of the most influential political scientists. 20th century. A former chair of Stanford's political science department, Almond wrote or collaborated on 18 books and many articles, beginning in 1934 until shortly before his death. Almond became professor emeritus in 1976, but continues to write and teach. In 1981, Almond received the prestigious James Madison Award of the American Political Science Association, which is given to a political scientist who has "made a significant scientific contribution" during his career.
Mr. Bingham J. Powell, Jr. he received his doctorate at Stanford in 1968 in comparative politics and European politics. He is president of the American Political Science Association, 2011-2012, editor of American Political Science, 1991-1995. He teaches comparative politics at the University of Rochester.
Russell J. Dalton, Ph.D. and lecturer at the University of Michigan. Professor Dalton's research focuses on the changing nature of contemporary societies and how these changes change citizens and their governments. It studies public opinion, voting and party politics, public images of the government and its policies. He studied the changing political activities of citizens in established democracies and citizen orientations towards democracy in developing countries. He is also one of America's leading experts on German politics, particularly public opinion in the post-war period. Professor Dalton teaches courses on comparative politics, political culture, and political methodology.
Kaare Strøm is a professor of political science at the University of California, San Diego. Strom's interests include political parties, coalition theory, European politics and the institutions of parliamentary democracy. Strom in 2004-05. was a member of the Center for the Advanced Study of Behavior at Stanford. He is a member of the Norwegian Academy of Sciences and Arts, and is also a member of the Royal Norwegian Society of Science and Literature.
