ALBERTINI, Beninj (Benignus a Rhacusio), poet (Dubrovnik, 1. XII 1789 — Skadar, 24. VIII 1838). He began his education in Dubrovnik, studied philosophy and theology in Dubrovnik and Ravenna. Year In 1805, he joined the Franciscan Order in the Dubrovnik province. When he became provincial in 1829, his friends dedicated a collection of commemorative cards to him. Pope Gregory XVI appointed him bishop of Skadar in 1832. On that occasion, his admirers compiled a collection of praise poems Componimenti per la fausta esaltazione al vescovato di Monsignore Benigno Albertini (Dubrovnik 1837). Year In 1837, he was appointed bishop of Split-Makar, but before taking office he died suddenly in Shkodër. — In addition to philosophy and theology, he was well versed in canon law and literature. He gained a reputation as an excellent speaker and preacher not only in Dubrovnik but also in other cities of Dalmatia and Italy (eg in Naples and in the Roman church Ara coeli). He took care of the arrangement of the library of his Little Friars monastery in Dubrovnik, and enriched it with a collection of Latin and Italian classics. He helped his brother Ambroz Marković with advice in studying and editing the manuscript of Gundulić's Osman. He sang in Latin and Italian. He was a member of the Roman Academy Arcadia where he recited his Latin poems under the poetic name Clariscus Parthenius. Most of his poetic oeuvre consists of commemorative pieces. Some of them were published independently, and most of them were included in collections of poems by various authors, printed by the Dubrovnik printer A. Martecchini (Š. Jurić, Iugoslaviae scriptores latini, Zagreb 1971). According to M. Brlek, he published the works Descriptio ecclesiastica universae Albaniae and Constitutiones Synodales Dioecesis Scodrensis. In the Library of the Little Brothers in Dubrovnik, Albertini's notes of various contents as well as letters and poems addressed to him have been preserved in manuscript.
