This book is conceived as a documentary monograph on the written resistance of Croatian culture against Serbian aggression in 1991/92. The title Croatian War Letter indicates, on the one hand, the ACTUAL LETTER that institutions and individuals wrote to clarify the truth about the war against Croatia, and on the other hand, the WAY OF WRITING that appeared and dominated Croatian culture during the war.

The book includes three types of texts: 1. appeals sent to the world by various societies, institutions and individuals, 2. statements of Croatian and international intellectuals and unknown citizens on the subject of the war, and 3. poems created as an immediate reaction to war. The texts are classified into chapters that make up the months from January 1991 until Croatia's admission to the United Nations in May 1992, and within the months by the time of publication or writing. Each chapter is preceded by a short calendar of events as a real historical background to the protests and testimonies. When it was necessary to provide an additional context of understanding, the texts were accompanied by notes, when the appeals resonated with the European and world public, the main highlights from the answers and reactions were recorded, and when we assumed that the foreign reader does not know what the local reader knows, we introduced cultural notes with the text of the English translation.
