Summary
Ulrich Shiller: Germany and "its" Croats. From Ustasha fascism to Tuđman's nationalism
Translation of a book by a German journalist that provides a reconstruction of German-Croatian relations and a review of historical events in Croatia between the First World War and the independence of the Republic of Croatia. In the foreword, Lino Veljak gives a review of the book as a kind of unpleasant mirror that encourages readers to confront the ghosts of the past and the necessary transformation, while the preface emphasizes the author's criticism of the Bundestag's attitudes towards the final dissolution of the Yugoslav federation. The author describes the consequences of the process of state transformations, which he associates with Hitler and Mussolini, as well as the political decisions and works of A. Pavelić, Tita and F. Tuđman. Speaking about the last war in the Balkans, he emphasizes war crimes and operations and the first accusations of the Hague Tribunal. At the end of the book there is a list of abbreviations and an index of names.
