SUPILO, Frano (Fran), politician, journalist and publicist (Cavtat, 30. XI. 1870 — London, 25. IX. 1917). In 1885, he graduated from the civic school in Dubrovnik (until 1886 he attended the Nautical School there) and in 1888 from the Agricultural School in Gruž, where he studied in 1889–90. worked as a prefect, briefly also as a traveling teacher, teaching downy mildew control in the surrounding villages. Politically, he was formed in the spirit of the right-wing idea, but with the influence of P. Čingrija. As a member of the secret anti-Austrian student society, he participated in 1885 with M. Čingrija in a demonstration on the occasion of the visit of the heir to the throne Rudolf to Dubrovnik. He was in that city in 1891–99. was "publisher and manager" and in 1892–99. editor-in-chief of the weekly Crvena Hrvatska (publisher until 1901), launched to counterbalance the coalition of the Serbian Party and the autonomists that won power at the municipal level in 1890.
