Summary
Branimir Špoljarić: Stari Zagreb - Od vugla do vugla
For more than thirteen years, the attention of Zagreb residents has been captured by Radio Sljemen's show Zagreb is the most beautiful city with a favorite opening line based on the song of the same name by Ivo Robić. In the beginning, it was called Zagreb from corner to corner. In that show, author-journalist Branko Špoljarić tells short two-to-three-minute stories about Zagreb's streets and squares every day; their origin, history, notable inhabitants, incidents and accidents, and various other events related to their long history. The show also features a handful of extremely interesting anecdotes from the history of the city and its inhabitants. For the book, 150 streets and squares of Grič, Kaptol and Donje grada were chosen, as well as a number of štikkels that tell about the history of the city and its inhabitants in an extremely interesting way. Almost all of these streets and squares are illustrated with drawings, graphics and old photographs from the funds of the city of Zagreb, which gives this edition a special charm and makes it unique and representative. Branimir Špoljarić was born in 1937 in Zagreb, where he attended and graduated from the Classical High School. He graduated in history from the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb in 1963. After completing his studies, he worked as a journalist and columnist in Vjesnik and Večernji list, as well as in various other periodicals such as VUS, Arena, Vikend, etc. From 1969 to 1994, he worked on the 2nd program of Radio Zagreb. In 1994, he moved to Radio Sljeme when he started and hosted the show Zagreb is the most beautiful city. Published in co-publishing with the Museum of the City of Zagreb.
