Summary
Bernard Majer: The Twilight of Justice: The Persecution of the Danube Germans through Personal Destinies
In this work, on the example of a brief historical overview, biography, administrative decisions and solutions, we observe the thorny path of one family in the events that followed immediately after the Second World War. This is not a mere historical - factual statement, but a realistic presentation of a human drama, starting from legal documents that remained silent witnesses of injustice and a precious source. With the gradual sequence of events, we enter a personal tragedy that has its basis in belonging to the German national minority and the mass persecution and execution of its numerous members by the actions of the communist authorities after the Second World War. The undoubted collective injustice described in this way, which was inflicted on an entire nation, acquires its individual level: suffering is no longer reduced to just a number, but acquires a name and a face. Exactly what members of various totalitarian systems tried to erase. If there is no evidence and no victim, the crime is difficult to prove. In the specific case, due to different circumstances, there were preserved sources that could be reached with some effort.
