Summary

Luigi Villari: The Republic of Ragusa

First edition. Table of contents and list of illustrations at the beginning of the book, after the prefatory note. Bibliography and alphabetical index at the end of the book. Notes below the text. Illustrated - illustrations in the text and on the plates. The illustration on the opposite page (portrait of Marin Kabužić) has a protective foil. Two maps: Dalmatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina on multiple folded inset sheet between p. 416 and 417 (it shows Dalmatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina only on the edge, while in the center of the map is Rumelia, i.e. the Balkans) and Dalmatia on the folded inserted sheet between p. 418 and 419. Overview of the history of Dubrovnik from its foundation to the fall of the Republic of Dubrovnik. In the introductory note, the author claims that he was motivated to write by the absence of an overview of the history of Dubrovnik in English and by the bias and inaccuracy of some of the earlier authors.
