Horvat wrote in 1935 that this work "with all scientific seriousness is accessible to every educated person who loves nature". This book contributed a lot to interest in our region.

Lujo Adamović, Croatian botanist (Rovinj, August 27, 1864 – Dubrovnik, July 19, 1935). One of the leading geobotanists until World War I. University professor in Belgrade, assistant professor in Vienna. Researched the flora and vegetation of the Balkan and Apennine peninsulas. Described many new plant taxa; introduced the term "pseudomachy" and "shrubland" into science.
The most significant work The Vegetation Conditions of the Balkan Countries (Die Vegetationsverhältnisse der Balkanländer, 1909) is one of the classic works of the science of vegetation formations. Also important are the Plant World of Dalmatia (Die Pflanzenwelt Dalmatiens, 1911), the Plant World of the Adriatic Countries (Pflanzenwelt der Adrialänder, 1929) and the Plant Geographical Position and Breakdown of Italy (Die pflanzengeographische Stellung und Gliederung Italiens, 1933).
