When was the last time someone asked you how you are? Was it said casually or with genuine interest? When was the last time you spoke openly to someone about how you feel, what worries you, what makes you happy and relaxes you? Do you have the patience to listen to other people when they tell you about themselves? We have been living in a busy time for a long time. We have been living in strange times in recent years. A little scary, almost dystopian. Pandemic, earthquake, war... one after the other. A time when it is important to ask yourself and others how we are. And to hear the answer, which will most certainly contain a lot of questions:

- it's hard for me, I wonder if I'm still my whole self?

- I'm still fine, but my son worries me, I wonder if it's just puberty or should I seek help?

- I'm quite well, but I'm constantly thinking about how to better organize my responsibilities?

- it's not bad, but I don't know how to improve communication with my partner

- I'm nervous, I calm down as I know how, but I don't even know how to proceed anymore

- I'm worried about everything, war, poverty, where does it all lead?

- I'm sleepless and I wonder if there's help for insomnia?

In the book you're holding in your hand, we tried to answer these and similar questions. We have tried to explain what happens in our mind and body when troubles overtake us. We have tried to provide useful and scientifically proven information and useful guidelines for various aspects of our lives.

Association how are you? it was created at the very beginning of the pandemic, on the day when the earthquake shook Zagreb. We were born in an elective course at the Department of Psychology of the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb. We recognized people's need for psychological support in moments when the world we knew up until that time was both symbolically and actually shaking. That's when we decided to serve the community by spreading knowledge about psychological processes. We did it through social networks and our website (www.kakosi.hr), we are still doing it, and we believe and hope that we will continue with it for a long time. [...] Since 2020, life teaches us every day that it is an unpredictable and uncontrollable phenomenon, and that the most we can do for ourselves is to develop adaptation skills. And that means learning to distinguish real from hypothetical dangers, develop self-belief, cultivate good relationships, manage your time, accept unpleasant emotions, be focused on your own goals and live a life worth living. The book you are holding in your hand is the help and support we sometimes need. You can read it in order, or you can read it by chapter, however you like. We hope that you will find it interesting and useful, that it will strengthen you and help you when life hurts.
