Summary
Tim Clare: The Coward
This is not a self-help book. This is not a polemic. It is neither first aid against an encroaching plague, an explosion of well-known myths, nor a deep meditation on the disease of modern times. This is not a manifesto. This is not a call to arms. Nor is it a spiritual cry from the depths of the soul. In this book, I will be a kind of medical skeleton for the study of cowardice. I'm here to show you all my bones. If you're good at avoiding situations that make you uncomfortable, you've probably never considered yourself anxious. I haven't been myself for years. Many adults unconsciously construct their lives so that they never find themselves in a situation where they feel inadequate, scared or inexperienced. They use numerous rationalizations - I don't have time for that, it's boring, ugh, the stupidest thing in the world - but what motivates them to act like this is anxiety. They do not feel afraid, but fear controls their lives. I'm a coward. So are you.
This is a book about how to learn to deal with it.
