Summary
Margret Rasfeld, Stephan Breidenbach: Schools wake up
Education is everyone's concern and this book concerns us all When it comes to school, everyone has an opinion. The topic of education is common in almost every family. Many parents stated that their children are afraid of school. Those children say: "I'm not going there anymore!" Already after the second grade, the pressure begins on the child to achieve success that will enable him to enroll in high school. Those early fears of school burden the entire family life. What does it look like for students? Do children and adolescents find each other in their school? Does the school give them any orientation in the world of the 21st century? Does the school benefit their future? Are they happy at school? Are they (still) curious? Did they manage to develop their talents? Therefore, the question arises: Can we even imagine a different school? A school where there is connection before separation, where respect for others has the same value as passing on material, where a critical spirit is built and where the kind of image of man that we want to build in our children is created? Can we imagine a school where it is understood that children shape their own future? Do such schools exist? The answer is: there are. In other words: the schools of the future are already alive. If we want all our schools to develop in this direction, we cannot avoid taking responsibility. Everyone involved in the school should act. How are such schools created? Namely, such schools are created when teachers, parents, school administration and students come together, who shape their own learning community. In this sense, we bring you this incentive. In the 21st century, we want to call for a fundamentally new and different rethinking of the education system. We want to encourage citizens to get actively, critically and visionarily involved in the bold and mature creation of new schools. Because we are left with the vision of the school as a place where potential is developed, where the heart is built, school as a wonderful workplace and a place of community. This is the only way we will succeed in instigating political changes and breaking the nearly hundred-year stagnation of education policy. Political institutions, by their very structure, are like tankers that sail sluggishly and slowly on the sea. Tankers stand for stability, reliability and continuity. Courageous citizens are more like speedboats that can detect obstacles and dangers much faster, but also build new paths and opportunities with much more imagination.
