Karlo Višaticki, Zvonko Pažin: Living water - Majim hajim
Theological meaning of water and its role in the salvation of the world
On the following pages is an attempt of a study about water, God's creation which for man and nature means life, hence the biblical title Mayim hajim - Living water (cf. John 4:10: Jesus wouldj reply: "If you knew the gift of God and who is he who says to you:
'Give me to drink',
you asked him
and he would give you living water.").
The subtitle says something more about the content and purpose of the study: Theological meaning of water and its role in the salvation of the world. Washing was precisely prescribed for the Jewish High Priest, baptism movements, which are known to us from pre-Christian times and performed baptisms in the time of Jesus, Jesus himself went to John the Baptist to be baptized, and there is no baptism without water. During the celebration of the Eucharist - Holy Mass, the priest washes his hands and says the words paraphrasing the words of Psalm 51: Lord, wash me from my iniquity, cleanse me from my sins. Ritual washings among Hindus and those in Islam emphasize the importance of water in the religious life of man. One of the Christian sacraments is baptism, which is a bath of new birth. There is a wide range of meanings of water, and in the following an attempt at some theological points of emphasis.
