Illustrated dictionary of architecture and construction: Croatian-English, English-Croatian
"Illustrated dictionary of architecture and construction" is the result of many years of translation work, in the last few years it has been additionally enriched with a considerable number of new terms, based on the suggestions of numerous associates, teachers and professors from the University of Zagreb. In the preface to this dictionary, the editor Zoran Vulelija emphasizes that "a work of a similar concept, according to the author's knowledge, does not exist, not only in Croatia, but also in the wider region, so it will undoubtedly shed a lot of light on this field in terminological terms". It is worth noting that in addition to English terms, when there are differences, American terms are also given. Both parts of the dictionary suggest, when appropriate, synonyms of basic terms, as well as recommendations of more appropriate expressions. Thus, for example, Serbianism, Turkishism, etc. are presented as separate terms, but instead of a translation, a reference is given to a more correct, i.e., Croatian term. Abbreviations of measurement units, relevant institutions and abbreviations common in construction and architecture are also published in the dictionary.
The pictures are made to illustrate the terms with which they are associated as clearly as possible. In many drawings, an elaboration of the basic term is given, so, for example, on the representation of the bridge, all its characteristic parts are marked with numbers, while in the signature below the picture, the corresponding Croatian and English names of those parts are given. In the drawings from the field of architecture, the emphasis is placed on the buildings that are located or were once located on the territory of Croatia.
