Summary
Collin De Plancy: Dictionary of Hell
"With this book I intended to save the reader the trouble of leafing through thousands of books. I wanted to offer him, in a condensed form, the most interesting that remained to us of demoniacs and similar people. I looked through all the books that I knew spoke of various superstitions and of those hundred thousand infernal superstitions that diminish the human spirit. I chose the most striking facts and that which affects us most. I have considered some of the most important prophecies, which have hitherto been untruthfully represented. I have also collected some unusual lines in order that the book may have variety, and that we may compare our own delusions with those of other nations. I confess, though I do not always state the sources from which I draw, that there is not a single item in this dictionary which I have not read or taken from elsewhere; and what I have discovered is the only wealth I have."
