Summary
The flying carpet and other Russian fairy tales
The Russian fairy tale occupies a special place in the history of the culture of the Western circle. Different heroes and heroines, such as Baba Yaga or Košćej the Immortal, as well as the plots of Russian fairy tales, have acquired a transnational, universal value. Also, not only different Russian writers played with many folk, widely known fairy tales, but also Croatian fairy tales often entered into intertextual dialogue with them. Since many of the total of 26 fairy tales that make up this two-part collection have never been available to Croatian readers in translation, we believe that they will attract not only the attention of a younger readership, but also scholars who deal with literature, folklore, ethnology and comparative literature.
