Summary
Kent H. Dixon: The Epic of Gilgamesh
The meaning of the Sumerian-Babylonian "Epic of Gilgamesh" does not need to be emphasized. It is one of the oldest and most significant works of world literature, composed long before Homer or biblical texts. Kent and Kevin H. Dixon, father and son, prepared - for the first time - an ancient text in the form of a graphic novel, thus bringing it closer to the sensibility of a modern reader, especially of a younger age.
Kevin H. Dixon's graphic manuscript follows in the footsteps of cartoonists such as Crumb, Uderz, Hergé or Groening, and ingeniously, humorously and visually attractively faithfully follows the plot recorded for the first time on clay tablets: the experiences of King Gilgamesh, Enkidu, Utnapishtim, journey, fight with monsters, description of the general flood, mourning, search for immortality, the process of psychological and spiritual transformation of the characters - basically, their confrontation with fundamental philosophical and existential questions that man still faces today, and therefore the work cannot lose its relevance.
The graphic novel "Epic of Gilgamesh" is already, rightly, considered part of the canon in that genre.
