Summary
Arturo Serrano Plaja: Cervantes' "magical" realism
Don Quixote seen from the point of view of Tom Sawyer and the Idiot
Well that was the last time. But before that, in Madrid, I didn't talk to him about everyday things. The meeting took place in one of the cafés on the Grand Via, where the most senseless things were drunk; coffee that is not coffee, etc. Hemingway carried in his back pocket a metal flask full of something that, thanks to his invitation, I tasted for the first time in my life: whiskey. So that afternoon I discovered two things from the Anglo-Saxon world: whiskey and the significance of Mark Twain. Because that was another thing. Hemingway told me that it is absolutely impossible to understand anything about the USA without knowing in detail Mark Twain, whom he, Hemingway, considered the greatest writer of his country. I don't know if there was something funny in that claim or not, and I don't think it should be discussed.
