Summary
Sergije Glumac: Dubrovnik - 50 sketches
Sergije Glumac (1903-1964), painter and printmaker, scenographer, designer and illustrator, is unjustifiably a forgotten and suppressed name in Croatian art, because his graphics, drawings and posters belong to the very top of Croatian modernism. Working as a scenographer at Zagreb's HNK, Sergije Glumac created a series of, until recently, completely unknown to the public, scenographic and costume sketches that represent the very foundations not only of the Croatian, but also of the world avant-garde. In this book, the Dubrovnik album of Sergi Glumac with fifty crayon drawings, created about fifty years ago, is published for the first time. Traditional artistic motifs such as the walls of fortresses, towers, portals, from Glumč's "hand" give completely new views to the otherwise well-known views of the old town. Texts with drawings: Luko Paljetak and Tonko Maroević, translated into English by Graham McMaster.
