"Half a century of Croatian art 1888-1938." was a historical and monumental art exhibition held in Zagreb. It represented one of the most significant cultural events of that time in Croatia

Time and venue: The exhibition was open from December 18, 1938 to January 31, 1939. It was held in the then newly built House of Fine Arts in Zagreb (today's Meštrović Pavilion / HDLU).

Occasion: The exhibition was organized by the Croatian Society of Arts on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of its existence and activity.

Concept: The exhibition was conceived as a comprehensive retrospective review of fifty years (half a century) of the development of modern Croatian art - from the crucial year 1888 until the contemporary production at that time. 1938.

Memorial book (Catalogue): The accompanying monograph and catalogue, which serves as a summary of the entire exhibition and a valuable historical document, was edited by a distinguished trio of authors:

  • Tomislav Krizman Half a century of Croatian art 1888-1938 (chief editor and famous graphic artist/painter)
  • Ivo Šrepel (art historian and critic)
  • Dragutin Tadijanović (famous Croatian poet, who worked on technical and textual editing)
