This book deals with the icon as a confirmation of the Orthodox principle of modernity. It is the work of a group of relevant Byzantologists and historians of iconography. It offers a rich fund of data that rounds out the chapters on the theological foundations of icons and iconography, on the technique of icons, Byzantine icons 6-15. century, Greek icons after the fall of Byzantium, icons of old Russia 11.-17. century, Georgian icons 10-15. century, icons of Serbia, Bulgaria and Macedonia 15-17. century, iconography of Ukraine, Belarus and Romania, Russian icons from the 18th-20th century and icons of the 20th century. With this important historical edition, the question of the meaning of the icon, the question of its ontological aspect, was brought up to date, and in addition, it also stimulated the reminder of the eternally living image of the first icon, of its primary meaning, which refers to the representation of the unique image of God.
