Summary
Hubert Van Den Berg, Valter Fenders: Lexicon of the Avant-Garde
'This lexicon presents a panorama of the avant-garde of the 20th century in the sphere of aesthetics, especially its manifestations in Europe and America and the offshoots of those manifestations in Asia and the area of the southern Mediterranean. The avant-garde was formed by a mix of groups, movements, isms, currents, tendencies, as well as artists, gallerists, publishers, newspapers and magazines connected by an effort not only to radically innovate art forms and individual arts, but also to simultaneously postulate a completely new understanding of art and its new positioning in society.'
