Mediji, kultura i umetnost u doba populizma

Dragićević Šešić Milena | Nikolić Mirjana

Summary

Mirjana Nikolić, Milena Dragićević Šešić: Media, culture and art in the age of populism

From the mid-1980s, populist communication, at first almost imperceptibly, conquered the media and cultural space, and in the 1990s it dominated the public discourse and significantly influenced the shaping of the public sphere, its ideological and aesthetic values. Scientific deliberations were mainly focused on political-populist communication, and the intrusions of populism into media, cultural, urban and even educational policy were left aside, although long before researchers, some artists began to investigate the phenomena of populism within art itself. Therefore, it is quite natural that the teachers of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts are focused on the study of cultural phenomena, artistic expressions and creative communication, and that they paid attention to the impact of populism and populist rhetoric on culture, value patterns, artistic and media practices. The presented authors and their works in this collection are a sufficient recommendation for readers and researchers not only to get to know, but also to actively reflect on different aspects of populism in the domestic and wider world frameworks, from the sphere of politics and social relations, through cultural and media policy, according to different communication and media practices, and finally art, as the most significant phenomenon of human expression of values, aspirations and experiences.
