Summary
Leon Battista Alberti: On painting. About sculpture.
The book contains two tracts by L. B. Alberti, a well-known member of the humanist community in Italy in the 15th century. He sent treatises in the form of epistles to Alberti to his contemporaries, and in them he deals with the theory of painting and sculpture (composition, light, movement, color) as well as practice and mastering techniques. Dealing with art and the laws of art, Alberti also offered many lovers of this art a practical guide through "noble skills" enriched with sketches, tables and graphic representations. In the introductory text, the author notes that he approaches the subject of painting in the manner of mathematicians, taking from them "things that concern our subject". In addition to these two translated tracts, the book also contains the originals in Latin. Editor Marko Špikić writes about Alberti's life and work in the Introduction. He is also the author of Commentary.
