Summary

Daniele Manacorda, Riccardo Francovich: Archaeological Dictionary

The Archaeological Dictionary is the work of two authors, Italian university professors, Riccardo Francovich and Daniele Manacorda. This work is unique because it relies on the sudden development and deep changes that historical archeology has experienced in the last twenty years in relation to the period of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries when, especially in central and western Europe, the traditionalist direction was strengthened, which awakened interest in the history of the Middle Ages. It is not possible to look at this work only as a manual, because it successfully shows the complexity of the thematic interests of contemporary archaeology. The dictionary has been modernized and organized by entries (for example, archaeological drawing, epigraphy...) and takes into account the evolution and structural changes that have befallen historical archeology over the last few decades.

This archaeological dictionary is very applicable to the Croatian archaeological profession, which is due to the closeness of the topics, but also due to the large part of the same historical heritage with Italy. When designing the dictionary, the authors paid special attention to medieval archeology, which also makes this book extremely close to our professional topics in archaeology, history and art history.
Archaeological dictionary by R. Francovich and D. Manacorda is the first comprehensive lexicographic work of the archeology profession in the Croatian language.
