Fortunio Ivan Franjo

Summary

Ivan Franjo (Giovanni Francesco) Fortunio: Regole gramaticali della volgar lingua

Ivan Franjo Fortunio, humanist, jurist and grammarian from the 16th century, according to many historians born on our island of Silba, is the author of the 1st printed Italian grammar, published in 1515 (a few years before the grammar of Pietro Bemba). This edition from 1552 was printed by one of the most important Italian publishers, Aldo Manuzio. It contains a morphological and orthographic analysis of the Tuscan vernacular based on the works of Dante Alighieri, Francesco Petrarca and Giovanni Boccaccio. On the front page is the Aldi Filli printer's mark, and on the back page is Manuzi's Aldus coat of arms. The book in question was exaggerated in the 19th century
