Pythagorica Marci Antonii de Dominis Nova Metempsychosis

Boudot Paul

Summary

: Pythagorica Marci Antonii de Dominis Nova Metempsychosis

Pythagorica Marci Antonii de Dominis Nova Metempsychosis is a Latin polemical work published in 1617 in Antwerp by Paul Boudot. The book is directed against Marko Antun de Dominis, the famous archbishop of Split who left the Catholic Church and went to England.

The term metempsychosis (migration of the soul) is used by the author allegorically and satirically. Boudot portrays De Dominis as a man who "transformed" from a church shepherd into a "wolf in sheep's clothing", accusing him of apostasy, arrogance, false teaching and betrayal of the Catholic Church. The work is part of the then fierce religious polemic after De Dominis's flight from Italy to England in 1616.
