Andrija Jambrešić, pedagogue and lexicographer (Cesargrad near Klanjec 1706. - Varaždin 1758.). A Jesuit, he graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy at the Jesuit University in Trnava, and theology in Graz. High school teacher in Zagreb and Varaždin and prof. and the dean of the aforementioned Jesuit college in Trnava. 1739. the Jesuit Franjo Šušnik began to compile a larger, more abundant and more modern dictionary than the lexicographer Juraj Habdelic, but as he was already ill, he took Andrija Jambrešić as his assistant, who had already proposed a reform of Croatian spelling based on diacritical marks in part of the Manductio ad croaticam orthographiam (Zagreb 1732.) (Manual for Croatian orthography), even a century before Ljudevit Gaj tried to make such a reform. It was this work that prompted Sušnik to ask for Jambrešić's help in his work. Since at the time when the Croatian Parliament gave permission for printing, Šušnik died, all the burden falls on Jambrešić. 1742. In Zagreb, Andrija Jambrešić published the Latin-Croatian-German-Hungarian comparative dictionary Lexicon latinum interpretatione illyrica, germanica et hungarica. Omašan encyclopedic dictionary (1172 pages) consists of two works: four-language on 1068 pages. contains 27,000 words, while the bilingual Croatian-Latin section on page 72. brings 7,000 words.
