Summary

Yriarte Charles: Bosnia and Herzegovina. Souvenirs de voyage pendant l'insurrection

First edition. Contents at the end of the book. Illustrated - pictures on inserted unnumbered sheets (plates), of which one illustration over two pages. Color map of La Bosnie et l'Herzegvine pendant l'insurection on a multi-folded sheet at the end of the book. The book was translated into Bosnian in 1981 (see right). Travelogue from a trip from the end of August 1875 to the spring of 1876. The goal of the trip was the Ottoman provinces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as the place where the uprising broke out, and the road led through Croatia. The work has 13 chapters. In the first chapter, a brief overview of the history of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the main geographical characteristics is given. The second, third, fourth and fifth chapters mainly contain descriptions of the regions through which the author passed on the way to Bosnia. The description of Zagreb, where the author stayed a little longer, should be singled out. Other chapters describe Bosnia and Herzegovina and the uprising that was underway at the time.
Regions: Bosnia, Herzegovina, Croatia, Zagreb
Map: Bosnia, Herzegovina, Croatia, Zagreb

Yriarte, Charles

Charles Yriarte (Paris, 5 December 1832 - Paris, 10 April 1898) - French journalist, publicist and travel writer. Born in a family of Spanish, probably Basque origin. Studied architecture in Paris. He joined the Spanish army as a reporter for Le Monde Illustré, and later became its editor. In 1871, he left his job as an editor to devote himself to travel. In his travelogues - especially in the descriptions of the Sesian Arcadia where uncorrupted and healthy people live - the influence of the romanticism of Parisian intellectual circles is obvious.
