We are pleased to present the third monograph from the edition of famous Croatian wines - about žlahtina, a wine from Vrbnik on the island of Krk that has been on the wine lists of all prestigious restaurants and wine bars for the past several decades. Žlahtina, ranging from yellow with a greenish tint to straw-yellow to golden-yellow, was preserved only in Vrbnik. The authors of the monograph are distinguished Croatian scientists and experts - Nikola Mirošević, Petar Strčić, Slavko Zahija, Vladimir Jelaska, Marinko Vladić, Mira Katunar, Božica Brkan and Jole Bolić. Through an interesting historical review of the development of social relations in Vrbnik and its influence on viticulture and winemaking, to a presentation of the ecological conditions and their suitability for growing vines in the Vrbničko polje, as well as a description of the technology of grape and wine production and its presence in Krk gastronomy, the story written long ago in the Glagolitic handwriting of the Vrbnik peasants is told. The edition is bilingual, alongside the Croatian text, an English translation is also provided, with an abundance of superb photographs by the author Marija Hlača that vividly evoke the many spiritual, cultural and material heritages of Vrbnik and the island of Krk - evidence of man's work in the dignity of living in these areas. They must be protected and preserved, not only as Vrbnica, Krka, but also as a national heritage of which we are proud.
