"Porin" is a heroic historical opera in five acts. It is considered the most significant work of Croatian musical romanticism and a turning point in the development of the national operatic expression.
The libretto was written by Dimitrije Demeter based on the records of the Byzantine Emperor Constantine Porphyrogenet about the early history of the Croats.
The action takes place in the 9th century and follows the struggle of the Croats for liberation from the rule of the Franks.
