Summary
Susan Elois Hinton: The Outsiders
Written in the first person, this novel seems like an excerpt from a biography or a confession of a fourteen-year-old boy, Ponyboy. After losing his parents in a car accident, he is left alone with his two brothers - Darry and Sodom. Besides them, there are also his close friends from childhood: Johnny, Cheap Mathews, Steve and Dally. They all have in common a problematic family situation and the fact that they are "greasers" - petty criminals, recognizable by their hairstyles, black leather jackets, jeans and tennis shoes, in constant conflict with rich and arrogant make-up artists. One night in the park, a group of five makeup artists, led by Bob, will attack Ponyboy and Johnny. Johnny will lose control and stab Bob with a knife...
