Pamuk is the most prominent Turkish writer, and the White Fortress is his most famous novel, which represents a significant reflection on East and West. In the 17th century, a Venetian captured by Turkish pirates was brought to Istanbul. The prisoner, who believes that he understands astronomy, physics and painting, is bought by a Turk who is interested in the same things.
