Summary
Ursula Le Guin: The Wizard of Earthsea
This is the first volume in the now cult "Land and Sea" series by the famous SF writer Ursula LeGuin. The Wizard of Earthsea is a specific mixture of fantasy literature and bildungs novels, at first perceived as children's literature, but in the years of serious reception that followed, it reached the status of one of the most important books of this genre. The main character Ged, the son of a poor blacksmith, has a talent for magic that will lead him into unexpected adventures with monsters, dragons and supernatural forces of all kinds. But this talent will also confront him with personal weaknesses, such as arrogance and impatience, which are just as important to overcome as any evil. It is a timeless story about growing up, getting to know magic and the forces of nature, and an encounter with death, after which no one remains the same.
