Jerome K. Jerome: Idle Thoughts of an Idler
Jerome K. Jerome, son of the Rev. Jerome Klapka, was born on May 2, 1859, in Walsall. He completed his philosophy studies in London. Before devoting himself to journalism, he was a clerk, a school administrator and an actor. His reputation dates back to 1889, when he wrote the satirical works The Idle Thoughts of an Idle Man and Three Men in a Boat. From 1892 to 1897, he edited the newspapers Besposličar and Danas. In 1886, his play "Barbara" was first performed at the Globe Theater in London. It was a forerunner to a series of his other works in which he later played himself. Jerome K. Jerome was a very prolific writer. Although he started his literary career quite late, he still enriched English literature with over twenty excellent literary works. He died at Northampton General Hospital on 14 June 1927.
