Hjalmar Soderberg: Doctor Voice
The short novel by the respected Swedish writer was first published in 1905. The main character Tyko Gabriel Glas, a doctor and misanthrope, reveals his disillusionment with false morality, hypocrisy and accepted social conventions through his diary entries. Doctor Glas is willing to put his reputation and future on the line if he could do just one great deed to improve his image of the world. He gets an opportunity when the young wife of a hated pastor asks him for help. The novel Doktor Glas caused a scandal after its publication, but today it is considered a classic.
