Summary
Yunus Emre: A selection from Sufi lyrics
Yunus Emre is the most famous Muslim poet of the Turkish language and one of the most important poets of Muslim humanity. In Bosnia, this poet was anonymous until recently, even though his poems and qasidas have been studied in this area for centuries. We find the same phenomenon in some parts of his homeland, Turkey: the common world learns his numerous ilahis and qasidas without even knowing who, once upon a time, not only wrote them but also composed them into vocal compositions of irresistible power and charm. The dervish Yunus himself is mostly to blame for this anonymity, who did not compose his ilahis and qasidas to spread the glory of his name, but to awaken belief in people, and then to spread love and mercy towards all people and the whole world through that belief in God.
