Čubranović Andrija

Summary

 Andrija Čubranović: Jeghjupka

Gospara Andr. Cjubranovchja Dubrovcjanina In Dubrovnik on Fri. Fran Martecchini, 1838

Čubranović, Andrija, Croatian poet (Dubrovnik, first half of the 16th century). Today he is considered a fictional author. In 1599, the famous masquerade Jeđupka was printed under his name in Venice. The lack of convincing evidence about Čubranović's existence fueled doubts that resulted in the attribution of Jeđupka to the Hvar poet Mikša Pelegrinović. Today, the accepted opinion is that Čubranović was invented by Toma Budislavić from Dubrovnik, to whom the Venetian edition of Jedupka from 1599 was dedicated and who financed it for his own social welfare. Towards the end of the 16th century Antun Sasin Bratosaljić mentions the poet Andrija Zlatar as the author of Jedupka and two poems in Ranjina's anthology, which led to a long-lasting identifying Zlatar with (alleged) Čubranović.
