Summary
Ferenc Molnar: Heroes of Pavlova Street
The novel Heroes of Pavlova Street is a classic (one could say canonical) work of children's literature, because it is almost flawless in every respect - narrative, stylistic, characterological, psychological, pedagogical... It is a wonderful story about the rivalry of two groups of boys, two small armies, who are fighting for their beloved "grunt", for their playing space, and in that fight their boldness and fear, ability and weakness will come to light; in doing so, some will receive wounds, cry tears, show cowardice and betrayal, but also repentance and new proof and heroic courage. Such storytelling mastery could not go unnoticed, so right after its publication (1906) it met with the undivided approval and acceptance of younger and more mature readers, because almost all of us played and socialized, made friends and "warred" in one way or another in our childhood. Growing up is a time of all kinds of adventures, including "warfare", everyone remembers them with nostalgia and love, and Ferenc Molnár managed to describe them in such an impressive way that he touched the hearts and minds of all (minor and adult, current and former) boys, as well as girls. Although today's younger generations may be closer to a more modern electronic, film or literary hero, so they conduct "Grunt wars" on a computer or mobile phone, the fascination with the hundred-year-old Heroes does not end, so that even today it is one of the rarer reading titles that every new generation "swallows" with pleasure! A beautiful book!
