Summary
Liliana Korobka: Kinderland
When her parents leave the village in search of money, twelve-year-old Christina is left alone with her younger brothers and takes on the role of mother. Through the eyes of this old girl, we discover a picture of a modern Moldovan village where only children and old people live. Children learn to survive on their own and establish their own rules while waiting for their parents to return. They take care of food, a roof over their heads, learn to cope emotionally and physically with the absence of their parents, and at the same time experience their first crushes, conflicts with their peers and play various children's games. We are abandoned children, punished by our parents and the environment, and now God is punishing us for our sins. We need God's mercy more than His punishment. God's mercy is like a ray of sunshine that wakes you up in the morning and when you open your eyes you see your mother gently caressing your cheek and asking: "Did my chicken wake up?" And the chick closed her eyes, excited and hoping it would happen again.
