Summary
Thomas Love Peacock: The Nightmare Abbey
Under the influence of Shelley, Peacock became interested in antiquity, and the main things in antiquity were the perception of the world, life, love, creativity as a timeless celebration. To a significant extent, from joint readings, and most importantly, from discussion, verses on mythological themes were created, which was the key to understanding antiquity and its creativity and philosophy, and such is the Košmarna Abbey. The novel appeared in 1818. It underwent minor changes for the 1837 edition, when, on the advice of his friend Edward Dubois ("The final scene is disappointing - he wrote to Peacock - and needs to be finished."), Peacock changed the ending. In that revised edition, the text was published as part of the Collected Works of Thomas Love Peacock, printed in London, in a limited edition of 675 copies, the so-called Halliford edition, according to which this edition in Serbian was also made.
