Summary
Irwin Shaw: Lucy Crown
After the worldwide success of the epic war novel Young Lions, few expected from Irwin Shaw an intimate love drama that at the same time shook America with its story of female rebellion, which was not exactly an expected phenomenon in society at the time. The title character, a well-to-do housewife Lucy Crown, will enter into a relationship with a young student, her son's tutor, and thereby set in motion a series of sad and tragic events that will lead to the disintegration of the family.
The book was also a sensational success among our readers, so between the 1960s and 1980s it appeared in several editions and was always sold out. The story intrigues even today: female rebellion, moral dilemmas, lack of self-confidence, missed opportunities, psychoanalysis and the importance of communication in marriage are eternal themes, and they are all covered in turn in this novel, which we are republishing for all those readers who, like all those before them, will answer numerous current questions.
The novel was translated by Dinko Petriševac.
