Summary

Božo Lovrić: Irresistible Youth

The work, which is meant to mark the 25th anniversary of the author's literary work and in which Split and Split society are shown as they were thirty years ago. Joy of life! Young people look forward to sun, sea and love. The thought of unpleasantness is far from them, because "irresistible youth" covers everything with rainbow patterns. The breath of transience is barely felt in the moments of parting, when boys and girls, by force of circumstances, have to give up their love. But even this grief does not last long, because youth easily forgets. The work mainly describes student life and the awakening of eroticism, which is just masterfully presented. Countless faces and characters, which are very vividly described. A wealth of episodes from the Split area (Marjan and Vranjic). Among the heroines of the novel, there are also insulted (Jurka) and humiliated (prostitute Milka), who deeply shake the reader's soul with their undeserved fate. It is a significant episode, in which the author - as a poet of the south and the sea - because of the contrast, describes Prague and the night life of the northern metropolis. In one chapter, he presents the characteristics of professor Toma Masaryk, who had such a decisive influence on our youth at that time. Lovrić's young heroes do not fail, because they believe in struggle and life, just like their great teacher, the current president of the Czechoslovak Republic.
