Nestali u stoljeću

Lovrenović Ivan

Summary

Ivan Lovrenović: Missing in the century

Nestali in the century is a book that should be stopped in front of and should be taken seriously, because it rarely tells a precise and painfully clear story about the burdens that we carry through life. Starting from his personal history, from his family and immediate family homeland, Lovrenović weaves a web that encompasses an entire country and an entire continent, creating a comprehensive picture that reaches into the past, describes the present and outlines the future.

And it does not matter whether Lovrenović is telling a story about the Bosnian Franciscans, about Bosnia Srebrna, about the recent war, or about the one in which his father also disappeared, whether he is talking about great historical events or about small human destinies, because everything he wrote and recorded is assembled into a magnificent building in which every part, even the smallest diary fragment, perfectly complements others, outlining a great story. Ivan Lovrenović shows incredibly clearly that literature is destiny and that through writing it is possible to reconstruct the world and worlds, because reality and fiction are one and the same when created by a great author.

Vanished in the century are a true literary gem of a great master of language who does not write down, but creates anew.

Winner of the Meša Selimović award in 2014.
