Summary
Reif Larsen: Selected works of T.V. Spivet
When twelve-year-old cartographic genius T.V. Spivet receives an unexpected phone call from the Smithsonian Museum, informing him of winning the prestigious Baird Prize, his normal life is interrupted, and a crazy adventure across the American wilderness takes T.V. from his family ranch to the hallowed corridors of the museum.
T. V. sets off alone, before dawn, with the intention of hopping on a freight train and traveling to the East as a vagabond. When he finally gets on board, his adventure becomes even more exciting as he meticulously draws maps and illustrates his discoveries. The further away from the ranch, the closer it gets to home. A secret, written family history, which he finds in his luggage, tells the story of T.V.'s ancestors and their long-ago journey to the West, giving us a deep insight into the family he left behind and his role in it. While reading the family history, T.V. discovers how blurred the boundaries between reality and imagination are, and despite all his analytical rigor, he realizes that the world around him is enigmatic.
