Summary

Naja Marie Aidt: Pavijan

Translation from Danish: Đurđica Žlebačić Sørensen

Irresistibly disturbing, soberingly hypnotic, realistically bizarre or bizarrely realistic stories in this collection thematize wanderings through the labyrinths of human sexuality and the crooked ways of realizing desire, problematize the aporias and gray areas of love relationships, with a ruthless, insightful, but also against the unenviable of the human condition, a compassionate questioning of the dark side of human nature and stereotypical, unexamined gender, marital, partner, relative and parental roles. The author is rightly considered the most prominent representative of the so-called 'new realism' in Scandinavian literature.

Naja Marie Aidt was born on December 24, 1963 in Greenland. He published his first collection of poems in 1991. Known for her minimalist style, to date she has published eleven collections of poetry, one novel, three collections of stories and several film scripts, children's books and radio dramas. In 2017, he published the book Har Døden taget noget fra dig så giv det tilgke; Carls bog (When death takes something from you, then give it back; Carl's book), about the tragic loss of Carl's son Emil, for which, as the first Danish writer up to that time, she was nominated for the prestigious 2019 National Book Award for translated literature. In addition to the aforementioned, she received a number of Danish literary awards, such as the annual award of Danish literary critics (2007), and in 2008 the Nordic Council's Literature Award for the story collection Bavijan. Her works have been translated into English, German, Swedish, Icelandic, Italian and other languages.
